Meditation for ProductivityPick the Brain

Loads of research links meditation to positive outcomes—to little things like peace and happiness. But what about that outcome that, for better or worse, many prioritize above all—productivity?   If it works for them… Many attribute their productivity to meditation. Yuval Noah Harari, for instance, author of international bestseller Sapiens, attends a silent retreat each year, spending two months simply observing his thoughts. Without the focus this provides, he says, writing his books would not have been possible. For Oprah, meditation encourages a sense of stillness and a space to do her best work and live her best life. How Meditation Boosts Productivity That meditation can foster productivity is well supported by science. The possible mediating factors are many—from decreased …

5 Tips on How to Get Students Thinking Positively for Better Learning

As we go through life, we constantly learn how to think positive. Adults understand, and have felt the many benefits of positive thinking, but students, who are suddenly faced with endless tasks and big responsibilities, may not have such knowledge. Even if they do, they require guidance and help from their educators when it comes to learning. It can often become challenging for a student to think positively about learning, or even life. They are young and quite impressionable, and the burden can be the cause of a lot of stress and low self-esteem. Whether they choose to do this through yoga and meditation or find a different muse to keep themselves going, that’s their choice. As an educator, you …

How to Make Your Self-Help Really Help

Ray was on a tear. “All that self-help stuff is okay, I guess, but it has never worked for me. Ever.” He was starting to get excited, waving his arms and pacing around. “In fact,” he went on, “it usually makes things worse for me.” I asked Ray for examples. “Well, like, I’m out of work — you know that, right? — and I’ve wasted the last two months trying to affirm myself a job.” He sat down, dejected. “Heck, it would have worked better if I’d just gone and seen about all the jobs in the classified ads or visited the employment agencies.” “You didn’t physically do anything to find a job?” I asked. “Well no,” he almost shouted. …

Getting Motivated By A Motivational Speaker?

In the past years, there has been a sudden rise of motivational speakers. They appear in television and in magazines as well as sold out seminars that are just brimming with people who are just craving to get some direction with their lives. A motivational speaker, instead of focusing on the financial gains that he or she will most probably get from these seemingly “needy” people, should focus his or her attention to actually motivating people to actually be the best that they can be through their sheer motivation to change their lives for the better that is actually inspired by such a speaker. A motivational speaker is, most often rather should be seen as, an expert, the one person …

Employees – Money Is Not The Only Inspiration

How to inspire employees to perform better and continue retaining their loyalty with the company? Ask this question around and the first option may be given as to raise the pay. Is raising the salary the only method of inspiring employees? Let us look at some others that can make a difference. The first thought of money and inspiration means that we subconsciously compare our employees to machines. Add more fuel, maintain and it will perform better but that is for machines. Humans are certainly not machines. If money was the main motivating factor, you would not find people working for humanitarian and non profit causes without any money in return. So when we think about motivating employees, we have …

Do You Think Motivational Thoughts?

What do motivational thoughts do? They help you take action. This isn’t about positive thinking or motivating quotes. Those have their place in shaping your attitude and thinking. However, what motivates each of us is unique, so you need to have your own thoughts – those which are most effective at getting you going. “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity” – Albert Einstein This is a decent quote, and it may help you look at the positive side of a situation, but what if it just doesn’t get you excited? Then you need to apply a little brainpower to make the idea your own. You have to make it a truly motivational thought for YOU. Motivational Thoughts Of Your …

Being able to foresee an unfortunate fact of life like death, disasters, illnesses, etc. through a dream is very common. Anyone may dream of something good or bad happening to someone else or even to themselves. Do dreams serve as a premonition? Before we proceed in answering the question, let me first give you the definition of premonition and dreams. Based on dictionary meaning a PREMONITION is a presentiment of the future; or a warning in advance while a DREAM is a series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep; a wild fancy or hope or a reverie. Let us first talk about dreams. We all know that dreams do play …

Discover Your Path to Success – Part 4

In Part Three, I promised we would get into the resources. Before we do, however, let’s discuss a treasure that most of us have been exposed to, but don’t take nearly enough time out of our day to focus on – the power of prayer. This may offend some people, but I hope it does not; as that is not my intent. As humans, we have progressed in so many ways, but we have lost touch with our bodies, nature, and the power of prayer. There seems to be a spiritual renaissance, of sorts, going on in the “new age” movement. However, there are a large number of children growing up with no spiritual guidance at all. There are many …

Change Your Thinking. Change Your Life.

Have you ever given up on a dream because you’ve listened to that ‘little voice’ in your head that tells you that you ‘can’t do it’ or ‘what’s the point?’ That inner voice is the critic inside of everyone that causes many bright futures to come to a screaming halt. Just like the mommy who freaks out when little Johnny runs with a stick, your inner ‘mom’ worries and frets over new challenges that arise, very often creating enough doubt to make you believe you can’t do it, whatever it may be. There are times when listening to your ‘gut’ comes in handy, but for the most part, what is perceived as a gut reaction is simply fear of failure …

Burn the Ships

One of the keys to reaching your goals is to eliminate any escape routes. It is tempting to retreat to safety and comfort when challenges and difficulties arise. To avoid turning around and abandoning your goals, you must make going forward more compelling then going back. When striving towards a goal, you must focus on what you want to obtain and avoid the impulse to go back to what you know and to what is comfortable. When Spanish Conquistador Hernando Cortez landed in Mexico, one of his first orders to his men was to burn the ships. Cortez was committed to his mission and did not want to allow himself or his men the option of going back to Spain. …

Benjamin Franklin’s method of habit formation

Benjamin Franklin, inventor, statesman, writer, publisher and economist relates in his autobiography that early in his life he decided to focus on arriving at moral perfection. He made a list of 13 virtues, assigning a page to each. Under each virtue he wrote a summary that gave it fuller meaning. Then he practiced each one for a certain length of time. To make these virtues a habit, Franklin can up with a method to grade himself on his daily actions. In a journal he drew a table with a row for every virtue and a column for every day of the week. Every time he made a fault, he made a mark in the appropriate column. Each week he focused …
